BAZAAR's Senior Beauty Writer Joyce Cheo Shows You How To Get Your Glow On

Luminous skin in 6 easy steps

Who doesn't love naturally radiant and dewy complexion? While we can't all have our own glam squad, here's how you can fake a post-facial glow in six steps.

Step 1: Moisturise

Hydration is key when you're looking to maximise skin's natural radiance. YSL Beauty's Top Secrets Instant Moisture Glow, $88, locks in moisture for up to 72 hours without feeling sticky. For those with dry skin or spend long hours in air-conditioning, layer it over your regular moisturiser for optimum results.

Step 2: Prime Your Skin

Primers are kind of like the unsung heroes when it comes to a flawless complexion. For fresh-looking makeup that lasts all day, it is essential to work in the primer step. Designed to create a barrier between your skin and makeup, the primer layer minimises the interaction between the sebum that our skin produces throughout a day and our makeup, thus keeping oxidation at bay for a radiant finish. Plus, new primers also have multiple benefits jammed into them. Try NARS' Radiance Primer SPF 35/PA+++, $65. It is enriched with plant extracts to boost skin vitality and has a slight pearlescent finish for an instant glow.

Step 3: Conceal

Instead of piling on foundation to mask blemishes and skin discolourations, dab on concealer on specific areas like around the eyes, nose and mouth. This covers up imperfections without having a thick layer of makeup so your skin still shows through. Choose a concealer that has hydrating properties for the eye area to prevent it from settling into wrinkles. We like It Cosmetics' Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Ageing Concealer, $42. For breakouts, dot a full-coverage concealer like Marc Jacobs Beauty's Re(marc)able Full Cover Concealer, $46, directly onto blemishes and blend with a tiny brush. Or stick with the multi-use Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer, $116, a perennial favourite among makeup artists for its lightweight and buildable coverage.

Step 4: Set Makeup

Don't forget to set your makeup with a thin layer of loose powder to help makeup last longer. Use a large powder brush to pick up product but remember to tap off any excess; this ensures that you don't apply too much powder and end up with your skin looking overly matte. You can also use a fluffy puff, just be sure to "massage" it before application to ensure even distribution of loose powder over the puff. Next, press the puff onto skin in a rolling motion to coat skin with a light veil of the loose powder.

Step 5: All Over Radiance

To give skin a just-back-from-holiday radiance, choose a powder that has tiny pearlescent pigments for a soft, subtle glow. We like Guerlain's Météorites Light Revealing Pearls of Powder, $84. All you have to do is to swirl a large powder brush to pick up the product before sweeping all over the face.

Step 6: Highlight

Nothing screams glowing skin better than highlighted cheeks, so apply an illuminating powder, on the higher planes of your face. These are areas where light hits the face first and includes areas like the top of your cheekbones, your nose bridge, forehead and chin. Those with oily skin should avoid applying highlighter on the forehead to minimise unwanted shine.
