This is how 31 celebrities stay fit and toned

"I grew up as a horseback rider and a volleyball player so honestly when I got a gym membership in New York, I thought I was going to die. Going and running, just to run on the treadmill, wasn't my thing. I have so much respect for people that can do it, I wish I could because it looks really cool and really fun. There's always stories about cute girls in the gym, I'm just not one of those people. But I had to start boxing because I missed working on something and learning and I guess there's a little more aggression in boxing. I couldn't really get that side of me out, but I used to be able to by hitting a volleyball. That's why I started boxing," Hadid told ELLE.

The youngest Hadid sister also prefers boxing to yoga. "When I work out I love to work out. I train and I work out hard for two hours," Hadid told E Online. "I don't like to do the whole yoga thing. I think yoga is calming and it's amazing, but if I am going to go for it I am going to go hard."

The supermodel does pilates and yoga twice a week, plus planks to strengthen her core. “I’ll put on music, and my son will be dancing while I’m doing planks on the floor,” she told BAZAAR. On the road, she practices with Ballet Beautiful DVDs.

"I am a bit of a magpie with fitness. I do bits of yoga, pilates, ballet, swimming, and then I like to go running outside rather than go to the gym," she told BAZAAR.com. "I have noticed when I go to the gym I tend to build-up bulk and I don't really want to do that unless I am playing a character like that. It's all about feeling strong but not bulky."

"I’ve been switching things up a little bit. I love boxing, but more recently I’ve been doing a lot of circuit training and running. I've found that keeping fit on the road is really challenging," the supermodel told BAZAAR.com. "I always want to try new types of food that may not be all that healthy. The key to balancing this is keeping my body active. If I have a gym at my hotel, I'll wake up and do a quick workout, or I'll run outside as a way to see the place that I’m visiting. Another good trick of mine is packing a jumprope and doing ten minutes in my room first thing in the morning to get my heart rate up."

The actress practices with Bryan Kest Power Yoga online. “I used to work out at his studio in Santa Monica, but now I do it when I’m traveling,” she told BAZAAR. She's also into dancing: “I love the Lindy Hop. It’s such good exercise. You just need to find a guy who’s into it.”

The Victoria's Secret Angel does regular sessions with Justin Gelband at ModelFit in New York. “I’ve been seeing him forever.” To get zen, she also practices yoga and meditation. “They help me a lot; I keep things simple," she told BAZAAR.

Lopez is a loyal devotee to trainers Tracy Anderson and David Kirsch. "I am constantly switching things up – I like to do a mix of cardio (running, dancing, Tracy Anderson’s workout) and weight training. It’s important for you to constantly change your workout routine to keep the body guessing," Lopez has said.

"I love to run now, but if I'm going to the gym, I run about two and a half miles. When I first started, I was like, 'This is so hard. I don’t know how I'm ever going to get used to this. It's impossible.' But I also knew when I was done with it, I felt so good," the actress told InStyle. "I was like, 'OK, if I can just keep that in mind, then it'll start feeling good and I’ll just remember what the effect is."

“I work out a lot,” Gaga confessed on Good Morning America right around the time of her Super Bowl Halftime performance. “I do the VersaClimberand sing while I do it. [My Super Bowl show] is full-on cardio. It’s cardio while singing."

"If I could do one workout for the rest of my life, it would be a 2 – 3 mile run followed by a Pop Physique class. Running clears my mind and releases anxiety. Pop makes me feel flexible and strong. It is super hard and uses many ballet moves. I always pretend I’m Natalie Portman in Black Swan while doing it," Kaling confessed to The Chalkboard Mag.

The actress and dancer credits trainer Jennifer Johnson and her JJ Dancer Method for keeping her fit and motivated. “She’s a trainer who is also a dancer and she makes it fun for me,” she told Health. “If it’s not fun, I won’t go. We dance, we do routines for 45 minutes to an hour, whatever time we have. It depends on the week, but if I get one or two workouts in, I’m happy.”

"For me, changing up my workout routine is key. I always try to surprise my muscles. In Los Angeles, I work out at Rise Nation, which is a fitness climbing cardio class on the stair climber—it’s such a great workout," Aniston told Well + Good.

In a fitness video on her eponymous app, Kardashian confessed her love for the rotating stair climber when at the gym. "The stairs are everything for your lower body, and you’re sweating, it’s a great cardio workout. I like to do the stairs at the gym where the stairs are rotating, not an actual stair master," she says. "The stairs are rotating and if you stop you’re just going to fall off that bad boy. So that one is a beast. That is so good for your butt, thighs, squat, everything.”

"I start my day by drinking hot water with lemon and doing 20 to 30 minutes of breathing meditation. After that I jump on my stationary bike for 30 minutes while I check e-mail on my iPhone. I finish up with 10 minutes of yoga stretches. Three times a week I also have a trainer either in New York or L.A., and we lift weights," she told BAZAAR.

"I work out six times a week. I do yoga two to three days with an instructor at my house, and the other days I walk uphill or run on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I'll also get a private trainer from time to time," she told BAZAAR.

Cyrus is an avid yogi, even going as far as showing Jimmy Fallon how to do a few tricky Ashtanga yoga poses. "Gotta do yoga not for my body but for my mind! DO YOGA or GO CRAZY!," she wrote on Instagram last year.

Lively recently dropped a ton of baby weight with the expert guidance of her trainer Don Saladino, who focuses on weight training and mobility. "Turns out you can’t lose the 61 lbs you gained during pregnancy by just scrolling through [Instagram] and wondering why you don’t look like all the bikini models," Lively captioned a recent gym selfie. "Thanks @donsaladino for kickin my A double S into shape. 10 months to gain, 14 months to lose. Feeling very proud ???."

"I can't eat what I want, and I can't not go to the gym," she confessed to Self. The superstar has been spotted doing cardio at Soulcycle, but she's also not afraid of strength training. "I'll put on a song that I really like and do [biceps curls with] five-pound weights [for] the whole song and just try to burn out," she told Self. "The truth is, it's a lot of sacrifice. It's more about your mental strength than physical strength. You have to push yourself. It doesn't matter what trainer you have. And it doesn't matter what program you're on. You have to be healthy and make the right choices."

A solid fitness routine is even more important as the years go by. The designer told BAZAAR she does "yoga three times a week, and swimming or hiking in the country."

"I try to be active every day. I’ve been going to Body by Simone for a couple of years now. I work with a trainer doing isometrics and cardio, and it’s all about lengthening and toning and feeling good in your own skin. I have a lot of girlfriends who go too, and it’s a fun time in the morning. I grab tea on my way to the gym at the Coffee Bean nearby—the first person I speak to every day is probably the barista there. It’s nice to have a morning conversation at your local spot," the actress told BAZAAR.

"After my meditation, I work out for an hour. I do resistance flexibility, a low-impact strength-training program that involves two, sometimes three, people pushing against you as you push against them. I have stretchers come to my house to help me do it. After that I go for a run. This morning, I did 30 minutes on the treadmill and then a giant loop around my home. I live on 65 acres, so I can jog for a solid two miles without leaving my property," she told BAZAAR.

"After dropping off my son, sometimes I’ll hike with a friend. I put the baby in the baby carrier. I don’t have a regular fitness routine right now. I’ve just been hiking and swimming when I can, and doing little exercises," she told BAZAAR. "I find that if I have spare time, because I’ve been working already, I want to spend it with my kids, not at the gym. I also like Gyrotonics. I only do it with a trainer because I haven’t figured out how to do it by myself, but I haven’t done that since I had the baby."

“I am not a big gym person. I really like being outside and doing yoga, so I do a lot of hiking in L.A. and I have a yoga studio really close to my house that I go to like once a week,” she told InStyle in 2016.

"When I'm not training for a role then I don't really train. I'm just so relieved to not have to be training or at the gym. Since Suicide Squad and [I, Tonya] I did literally no exercise. Whenever there's a red carpet event coming up my trainer in LA that I see, I always come to her like three days before and go, 'Can you make me really thin in three days?' She's always like, 'If you come to me consistently all throughout the year, then yes I can. When you come to me with three days and ask to lose 10 pounds it's just not going to happen.' I'm like, 'Do your best. Please. Make me skinny,'" she told BAZAAR.com.

"You know, it just depends on if I have time to workout and what my mood is. Like sometimes, I'll just want to stretch and do more of a hot yoga-type situation, sometimes I want to sweat it out and do more cardio, spinning. But my go-to's are Brazilian Butt Lifts—it's just really, really concentrating on your core and your butt—and Pilates. I mostly do it at my house. In London, I do this thing called Heartcore and it's amazing. They're bringing that to the states soon hopefully. And Circuit Works. So I'm all over the place really. Sometimes I'll just move around and dance around to kind of just sweat because I feel like I need to get things circulating. But I'm not hardcore about it," she told BAZAAR.com.

To transform into Lara Croft for Tomb Raider, Vikander gained over ten pounds of muscle—and learned to strength train like the trained ballerina she is. "I did a lot of months of training, not only cycling but...MMA training, I did some boxing, climbing, swimming...I lifted more weights than I've ever done in my life," she told E!.

'Well, I was kind of born with a 10-year-old boy's body. For years, I was like, 'Please let me grow some kind of curvature!' But it did not happen. So...this is my natural form for the most part. I'm sure that will change as the years go on," she told Refiner29 back in 2012. "But, yeah, I have a boy body. I work out when I'm in a movie…like on Spider-Man, they get you a trainer, which is awesome, so then I do it. But, if there isn't someone yelling in my face then 'm just not into it. Pilates is the one thing that makes me happy while I'm doing it. But other than that, it puts me in a bad mood to lift stuff over my head. I hate it. But it is important to do it for my health, so I need to do it more."

"I don’t have a trainer; working out is my alone time,” the actress told BAZAAR. “Depending on where I am, I go on runs or hikes or do the elliptical at the gym. I don’t get too fancy.”

"Running is the quickest endorphin hit I can get. I like to do it really early in the morning before everyone gets up. It gives me a clear head and sort of resets the clock. It's like, 'OK, I got that out of the way. Now I can deal with people," the Modern Family actress has said.
