The Fragrances Diana, Kate And Queen Elizabeth Wore On Their Wedding Days

These are the official royal wedding scents through the generations

Kate was confirmed by Clarence House to have worn this soft floral scent by small British fragrance brand Illuminum during her 2011 wedding to Prince William.

The perfume, which was little-known before then, instantly became a global hit. According to Daily Mail, every single bottle in the 50ml size was sold out within minutes of the perfume being unveiled.

The newspaper also reported that Kate requested Westminster Abbey, the location of her wedding, be fragranced with her favourite Jo Malone scents. She purportedly requested Orange Blossom, Grapefruit and Lime, and Basil and Mandarin fragranced candles and toiletries from the famed English brand before her nuptials took place.

Diana's favourite perfume — which she also wore on her wedding day — is enshrined in legend. According to Brides, the princess spilled the perfume on her dress while applying it, moments before she was to walk down the aisle to marry Charles.

Diana attempted to cover the stain while she was walking down the aisle. We can't say we noticed — and in our eyes, this anecdote just makes us love Princess Di even more.

The perfume, according to Fragrantica, contains top notes of orange blossom and citrus, while also including carnation, orchid, jasmine and lilac, among others. Sounds über-royal to us.

The Queen has never released the name of her favourite scent per se, however we can take a pretty easy stab at what it could be.

According to The Telegraph, experts speculate that White Rose by British beauty company Floris is the Queen's preferred fragrance, due to the fact that it resembles the Queen's favourite flower, carnations. This is supported by the fact that the brand has been a favourite of the royals for almost two centuries, but also kind of by assumption—we can't imagine the Queen settling for anything less regal than this.

We're not sure whether Elizabeth II wore this on her wedding day, but we'd place a pretty solid bet on it.
