Beyoncé's ground-breaking headliner performance at Coachella was nothing short of aspirational. The beloved songstress rocked high-fashion Balmain-designed ensembles on stage and even gave her mani a quick-change, but what makes her a true queen in our eyes is that her glam was actually attainable.

In an interview with Refinery29, Queen Bey's longtime go-to makeup artist, Sir John, spilled the tips, tricks and makeup products he used to achieve the iconic #Beychella look.

For Beyoncé's on-stage beauty presence, Sir John said he was looking to to marry Queen Bey's musical vibe with hints of high-impact '80s-inspired makeup.

"She wanted to look young, fresh and like she wasn't trying too hard," the makeup artist told the site. "I was really inspired by the dress rehearsal, I didn't want to take her out of the element of the show by making her too girly or too minimal or sleek, I wanted her to look like a college girl on campus. Remember the movie School Daysby Spike Lee? That was my inspiration."

The A-list makeup artist decided to play up Beyoncé's eyes for the big show, opting for a major high-shine glitter lid. "I created a glittery lid by mixing a few different glitters," Sir John explained to Refinery29. "I started with a warm, terracotta base, mixed in an iridescent purple then applied glitter on the center of the eye."

Sir John added dimension to the shape of the eye without running the risk of smudging, with MAC's Brownborder eyeliner on the bottom lash line and a black liner at the top. "I always tell women, even though you make your wing with black, coffee eyeliner on the bottom is the best finisher because it doesn't weigh down the eyes," the makeup artist explained of his technique.

For the exciting wallet-friendly additions, Sir John revealed that he went with a few trusted drugstore products to bring Beyoncé's full look together. To define Bey's lashes, the makeup artist used L'Oréal's cult-followed Lash Paradise Mascara, then swiped on the brand's equally affordable Infallible Pro Matte Les Chocolats Scented Liquid Lipstick for a minimal yet long-wearing lip moment.

Keeping Beyoncé's face on-point during a close-to-two-hour set in the middle of the hot desert is no small feat. "It's basically like keeping your makeup on through two hours of cardio," Sir John said. "Layering is the key, so you want to use a liquid foundation, then set it with bronzer; a cream blush, then set it with powder blush; eyeliner, then set it with shadow. No matter what part of the face, it has a double application."

Beyoncé's Coachella look was fabulous and flawless on a drugstore makeup budget—and we thought we couldn't love her performance any more.
