Last weekend, the royal family held a formal funeral service honouring Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died at the age of 99 the week prior. As the longtime husband to Queen Elizabeth II, and the longest-serving royal consort, his passing was mourned by the whole family, who shared messages of grief and gratitude in the days after his death. "As you can imagine, my family and I miss my father enormously," Prince Charles, the oldest child of Prince Philip and the queen, said in a recorded message.

The service took place at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle, and guests were limited to just 30 people to follow government health guidelines during the pandemic. Those in attendance included the queen herself; the children she shares with Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward; and their grandchildren, including Prince Harry, Prince William, Princess Beatrice, and Princess Eugenie. The proceedings began after a national minute’s silence at 3pm local time.

The duke himself had a hand in choosing aspects of his funeral, such as the hymns and readings for the service and the Land Rover he commissioned to carry his coffin. "The ceremonial arrangements are a reflection of the duke’s military affiliations and personal elements of His Royal Highness’s life," a palace spokesperson previously announced.
