Get To Know: Indonesian Fashion Designers Audrey and Cynthia

Female power

About Audrey:

Born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia, Audrey started her own label, DREY, after 3 years graduating with a degree in Fashion at Esmod Jakarta. Prior to New Gen, she had her own successes too, having presented a full women's ready-to-wear collection at Indonesia Fashion Week 2015.

What inspires her?

Inspired by the expertise of Suku Asmat (a tribe in Papua, Eastern Indonesia), the collection is a combination of wearability and modern details. Using lasercut and flocking technique as the main detail, the collection tip toes on the line of ambiguity, with Audrey's aim of developing something that has not been seen before.

Brand ethos:

DREY delves on the concept of new ideas and Audrey's passion is to bring people back to idealism. She believes to put values picked from the culture into the collections as they will bring energy to the wearer. Her style of design can be identified in three words: sporty, simple and monochrome.

About Cynthia:

Cynthia's passion and interest in the fashion industry begin in 2010, when she began learning fashion professionally. She describes her designs as luxurious, powerful and understanding; and focuses on hard work and fabric manipulation.

What inspires her?

Titled "CYNTHIAFRANSISCA", the collection's aesthetic was influenced by her fascination of beauty and dark, modern concepts. Emphasising the idea of darkness, drama and elegance, the collection embraces her visions for the brand -- innovative, modern and timeless. The collection was also inspired by the idea of androgyny and gender bender, which explains the feminine and masculine touch of the pieces.

Brand ethos:

The brand is divided into two main lines: "CYNTHIAFRANSISCA", which is the main and focuses more on being dramatic and theatrical, and "CYNFRANSISCA", as a high end ready-to-wear fashion selling both men's and women's wear. Above all, the brand focuses on intricate garments and craftsmanship, with a touch of magic and pizazz.
