Kate Hudson Is The Star Of Our Hollywood Issue!

Editor-in-Chief Kenneth Goh talks about how the glitz and glamour of Hollywood — and Hollywood's golden girl — inspired the issue

“Everybody comes to Hollywood. They wanna make it in the neighbourhood. They like the smell of it in Hollywood. How could it hurt you when it looks so good?” The lyrics from Madonna’s 2003 titular hit from her album American Life truly describe Tinseltown so well. Having just flown back from LA for a Dior Beauty party, where the who’s who of celebrities, models, stylists and influencers live, I realised one thing: Everyone there is out for their 15 minutes of fame. Contoured to the high heavens, sparkles galore and dressed in the most outlandish outfits, people were screaming to be shot and filmed — without even speaking a word.

So, when one Californian Golden Girl came to our shores late last year, it was so refreshing to see none of that razzmatazz. Kate Hudson, A-List superstar and our cover girl this month, couldn’t be nicer, warmer and more down-to-earth. She embraced our humidity, delved right into the thick of things with a visit to Serangoon Road for some Indian nosh, followed by beer at Maxwell Food Centre before a spot of shopping in Chinatown. She even enjoyed some frog porridge and chilli crab — food clearly is her elixir of life. She’s spontaneous (her Boomerang with me made a huge social media impression and garnered over 1,246,000 views!), she’s funny and she has a wonderful, soulful voice.

On that Hollywood note, we have also devoted our pages to getting movie-style magic right from the runways. One of my favourite movies of all time, Pretty in Pink, resurfaced on the catwalks this spring/summer. Think fuchsia to the softest blush in the coolest silhouettes from the hottest designers.

Then there’s The Hunger Games, Shakespeare in Love, G.I. Jane... pick a heroine of your choice and we’ve found the perfect pieces to nail that look. If red-carpet glamour is what you are after, we have oodles of that right from your visage to the bijoux on your wrist.

And finally, how better to nail the look of a Hollywood starlet than the sexiest of body-con dressing? We flew Down Under to Sydney to shoot fashion that leaves little to the imagination with hot hunks in barely-there wetsuits (remember Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze in their ripped Point Break heydays?).

Smell, look, taste and feel Hollywood — this is one issue that will turn your La La Land dreams into reality.
