With the support of South Korean actress Han So-hee, K-pop star Soyeon of (G)I-DLE and many, many more, CHARLES & KEITH has unveiled its new flagship store—a 330 sqm duplex—right in the heart of Seoul's Gangnam district. With gorgeous interiors characterised by gradual curves, fluid lines and a clean and understated colour scheme, the boutique stays true to CHARLES & KEITH's signature aesthetic and is the brand's largest-ever in South Korea. The first floor is dedicated to bags and accessories, while the second storey houses shoes and the premium collection line.

As part of the festivities, the brand launched its collaborative capsule titled "Heart Is Every Wear," designed in partnership with South Korean artist Henn Kim—best known for her striking cover illustration for Sally Rooney's hit novel Normal People—at the opening event. The monochromatic 4-piece capsule collection reimagines Kim's signature anatomical heart motif and "encourages each wearer to feel encouraged in being forthcoming with their emotions".

How did this collaboration with CHARLES & KEITH come about? What are your most memorable experiences?

CHARLES & KEITH contacted me and I was so happy, as I personally love the brand. Adding my artwork to the products is especially meaningful to me and I'm grateful to be a part of this collaboration. The team kept the integrity of my art and enhanced it by suggesting bigger ideas; it was an eye-opening experience. Two moments were especially memorable for me—when the team agreed with my concept of "heart is everywhere," and when I first saw the shoe design. I loved it immediately; it was artistic and fashionable.

What inspired the capsule collection and what did you wish to convey?

The inspiration came from the concept of the "heart is everywhere" because I believe that everything has heart, even if people don't realise it's there. I wanted to focus on the theme of self-care, to give the wearer self-confidence through the collection.

What's your favourite piece from the collection and how would you style it?

It's really hard to pick one, but I'd have to say the boots. They're cool, chic and very comfortable to wear; the metal embellishments and decorations are unique and beautiful. I'd pair it with a maxi skirt—it not only gives a feminine silhouette, but is also edgy and cute.

How does creating in black and white help you to translate/channel your feelings?

I started drawing at a young age and used a black pen as a tool for my art since the beginning. It's become a Henn Kim signature and that is my way of expression. I like channeling my emotions in my artwork but with a twist. Black and white may look dry or negative, but my objective is for you to take away something that's the opposite of what's being presented—that's where the wit and contrast comes in.

Could you take us through your creative process?

Rather than taking time to think about an idea, I write memos, poetry and sketch drawings in my daily life. It's always a moment in which I'm finding myself within my art; it's not about getting inspiration from the outside or by interacting with other artists. It's always about introspection, examining my innermost thoughts and emotions, getting to know who I am, and expressing that through my art.

Are there any upcoming projects you can share with us?

I'll be publishing a second book and if given a chance, I'd love to collaborate with CHARLES & KEITH again! I truly loved working with the brand.
