Ralph Lauren To Be Honoured At The CFDA Awards

The American icon's brand is turning 50 this year

Ralph Lauren will be honoured with a tribute at the CFDA Awards this year. The American designer – whose brand is turning 50 – will be recognised with a CFDA Members Salute that will celebrate his impact on the industry.

This will mark the first Members Salute in the history of the CFDA, which will see the 500 plus members pay tribute to the designer. Lauren received the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award in 1991 and, in 2007, was honoured with the CFDA American Fashion Legend Award.

2018 marks 50 years since Lauren started his namesake label and 51 years since he first started selling ties under the Ralph Lauren name. He has gone on to establish one of the most successful American fashion labels of all time and one of the most recognisable brand names in the world, which now sells everything from clothing to homeware, fragrance, eyewear and even has restaurants.

"From starting with a tie at Bloomingdale’s to building a global brand, I respect and admire everything that Ralph Lauren stands for, including his philanthropy and kindness," CFDA chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg said about the news. "This is the perfect moment for CFDA members to salute this icon of American fashion."

The 2018 CFDA Awards will take place on Monday 4 June.
