Ready-to-wear Italian fashion label Max Mara debuted its Resort 2020 collection in Berlin earlier this week, in lieu of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The fashion presentation took place at the Neues Museum, which houses one of the world's most precious collections of prehistoric artefacts—metal objects from the Bronze Age. Pieces from the collection, such as the gold leaf ceremonial helmet, also known as the Berlin Gold Hat, inspired the fashion brands collection. Guests included the likes of Angela Basset, Bryan Boy, Nicky Hilton Rothschild and more. The presentation also included a dinner and after dinner event.

Modern Berlin is known for being home to incredible art, architecture and design. And Max Mara has always touted its approach to fashion with a quasi-architectural approach. So, showing their Fall 2020 collection there seems like a natural pairing—if anything, it was the perfect backdrop for the contemporary re-imagination of Berlin's history via fashion lenses.

One key item from the collection is the 'Berlin coat'. It's the Italian fashion label's homage to the city and is pristine white, tailored to perfection and feature embroidered flowers in tribute to the porcelain of Meissen—a symbol of German craftsmanship. The runway presentation was a celebration of design, history and the emotions they invoke.
