Met Gala 2023: Halle Bailey's Ruffled Cape Is Sheer Perfection
Nothing but respect for my Princess Ariel.
Halle Bailey is making a splash at the 2023 Met Gala.
The Little Mermaid star arrived on the Metropolitan Museum of Art's carpeted steps wearing a jaw-dropping white Gucci ensemble consisting of a sparkling semi-sheer lace halter-neck gown and a dramatic ruffled cape. (Do the ruffles remind anyone else of frilly jellyfish tendrils? Anyone?)

Halle previously talked about her personal style journey in a joint interview for BAZAAR.com with her older sister, Chloe Bailey.
"I think we're learning that we should always be comfortable no matter what we wear. But sometimes, even I forget that and will be like, 'I'll just wear it for a few minutes if it's cute," Chloe said. "It's also about taking risks and making mistakes, or even great decisions, sometimes."
Halle echoed her sister's sentiment, adding, "We're just trying to embrace our skin from the inside out. As I get older, I'm becoming more comfortable in my body and learning to embrace it."

The sibling duo attended their first-ever Met Gala together back in 2021. At the time, they both wore Rodarte, with Halle in a bubblegum pink fringe bodysuit and Chloe in a sweeping ivory cape gown.

This year's Gala's theme, "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," pays homage to the life and legacy of the late Chanel creative director.
The Costume Institute describes the spring 2023 exhibition as an exploration of "the work of Karl Lagerfeld. Focusing on the designer’s stylistic vocabulary as expressed in aesthetic themes that appear time and again in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019, the show will spotlight the German-born designer’s unique working methodology."
The exhibition will additionally showcase about 150 of Lagerfeld's designs, as well as some of his sketches, both of which "underscore his complex creative process and the collaborative relationships with his premières, or head seamstresses. Lagerfeld’s fluid lines united his designs for Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel, and his eponymous label, Karl Lagerfeld, creating a diverse and prolific body of work unparalleled in the history of fashion."
