Up-and-coming talent meets runway legacy

Naomi Campbell Will Mentor Rising Designers At Nyfw

Naomi Campbell is taking on the catwalk in a different way this NYFW. The supermodel will be mentoring rising designers for the VFiles runway show in September, according to Page Six. The brand and social media platform itself confirmed the news on Instagram today.

Campbell won't be the only celebrity selecting from and advising hopeful designers, either. Other mentors include makeup boss Pat McGrath, Rihanna's famed stylist Mel Ottenberg, Fear of God creative director Jerry Lorenzo, and rapper Young Thug (who appears in Calvin Klein's fall ads).

The annual VFiles runway show, which is now approaching its seventh season, features work by up-and-coming designers who are selected based on their submissions to the contest. Previous winners have gone on to dress celebs like Beyoncé and Kylie Jenner and were nominated for the LVMH Prize and CFDA Awards. To keep in the vein of new talent, the presentation also showcases rising models, hair stylists, makeup artists and photographers.

It'll be nice to see Campbell, a seasoned runway pro, offering her knowledge to budding talent. She did, after all, take on her first catwalk when she was only 17. The brand is apparently a huge fan of the supermodel too, as evidenced by its cheeky throwback Instagrams:
