The Couture Dresses We're Hoping To See On The Oscars Red Carpet

In our dream world, this is how each leading lady will dress

Oscars Couture

While many of the best-actress and best-supporting-actress nominees are likely to either wear something custom that we've never seen before or stick to their go-to designers, we have rounded up the dresses we'd love to see them in that have just come down the couture catwalks in Paris. From Ralph & Russo to Giambattista Valli and Chanel, these are the gowns to look out for on 26 February.

The first-time Oscar nominee Naomie Harris never fails to impress on the red carpet. We know she already has a penchant for Armani and we think this bold colour and striking silhouette would suit her down to the ground.

Although she is more than likely to wear custom Louis Vuitton, we think the rising red-carpet star would look perfect in one of Chanel's made-for-the-Oscars, glitzy gowns. If anyone can pull off those feathers, it's her.

Having been nominated for 20 Academy Awards, this is not Streep's first rodeo. This year, we think she should turn up in Elie Saab's striking drouser (the dress/trouser hybrid). She'll make almost as much of a statement as she did in her anti-Trump Golden Globes speech.

Nicole Kidman has been taking all kinds of risks this awards season – glittering green Gucci and sparkly tulle McQueen to name a few – and we've loved every single one. This detailed pink Givenchy gown would be another striking look, but one she would definitely look wonderful in.

This striking Giambattista Valli dress reminds us a little of the Vera Wang gown Williams wore to the 2006 awards (and one of our favourite Oscar dresses ever by the way) but with the addition of some seriously statement bows. Of course, we know she'll probably be in Louis Vuitton.

Always one of the most elegant ladies on the red carpet, Viola Davis stole the show in yellow Michael Kors Collection earlier this season and we think she'd be just as stunning in this forest-green Ralph & Russo gown.

The French actress isn't afraid to stand out when it comes to style, but she is also a fan of clean lines and classic silhouettes. We think this off-the-shoulder number from Valentino would be a perfect fit.

The Hidden Figures star has a pretty set formula when it comes to the red carpet, and while she more often than not opts for Tadashi Shoji, we'd love to see her in this glitzy, flowing Elie Saab gown.

She is already having quite the season on the red carpet – from Alexander McQueen at the SAG Awards to starry Valentino at the Globes – and we think this lacy, girlie gown from Ralph & Russo would be the perfect dress to finish it off.

So far this awards season, the heavily pregnant actress has stunned in vintage Prada and new-season Dior. For the Oscars, we think she should opt for this beautiful Chanel creation that feels like a modern take on the Fifties, perfect for the Jackie star.
