Monae's headpiece concealed her signature, onyx-hued strands, but she did allow a sliver of bangs to peek out from beneath the cowl. She also opted for a tear-drop crystal choker to accessorize the ensemble. Monae paired the show-stopping dress with pared-down makeup, opting for fresh, old Hollywood-inspired beauty. She wore strong, brushed brows, glittery black cat-eye liner, flushed cheeks, and matte red lipstick.

Monae is scheduled to deliver a "special performance" at this evening's Oscars ceremony—joining other performers lined up for this evening including Billie Eilish, Elton John and Idina Menzel. She also appeared in 2019's Harriet, whose star Cynthia Erivo is nominated for Best Actress this year.
