Paris Fashion Week: Gerald Tan Picks His Top Looks From Louis Vuitton Spring 2017

Creative Director Nicolas Ghesquière delivers another worthy showing for Louis Vuitton

Rumours of his possible departure aside, Nicolas Ghesquière's latest Spring/Summer 2017 collection for Louis Vuitton is easily his strongest showing yet.

Shown within the brand's yet-to-be-opened Place Vendôme's flagship, its raw concrete finishing is the perfect contrast to the futuristic vibe of the clothes. Ghesquière treaded familiar ground with his signature sportif-meets-Space Age aesthetic, but he threw an element of after-dark glamour to the mix this time round with '80s shoulders, sensual silhouettes and accents of metallic shine.

One of the most memorable points of the collection was the suiting options Ghesquière offered—those came slashed or deconstructed for maximum impact. Perhaps buoyed by Vuitton's recent red carpet appearances on the Met Gala, Ghesquière also closed the show with a number of sweeping see-through gowns that adventurous starlets will be clamouring to wear come awards season.

And with Vuitton being a leather goods powerhouse, the accessories were equally killer: One newfangled version of the best-selling Petite Malle design now comes with hardware that resemble the façades of Paris' old buildings. Another hit? Those handphone cases inspired by Vuitton's travel trunks.
