Step Into The Fabulously Camp World Of Roger Vivier's SS21 Collection

The collection comes to life in a whimsical fashion film revolving around a spy.

Creative director Gherardo Felloni’s film presentation of Roger Vivier’s spring/summer 2021 collection was a masterclass in fashion marketing during a pandemic. Starring Isabelle Huppert, the whimsical and camp-filled fashion film Hotel Vivier Cinémathèque was nostalgic, entertaining and full of glamour—something that has become somewhat of a hallmark of Felloni’s interpretation of the French maison’s heritage.

Hotel Vivier Cinémathèque is also a game where we follow Huppert throughout the film and answer riddles. The challenge is to find a key, and failure to do so sends you back to the previous level, and if you get it right, you move on to the next level.

Through wit and carefully storyboarded shorts, Hotel Vivier Cinémathèque achieved what every brand dreams of: Desirability. Which isn’t surprising. In his time as creative director of the French maison, Felloni has artfully merged his maximalist aesthetic with Roger Vivier’s heritage, and the results have been sublime. Take for example the spring/summer 2021 collection featured in the film: Colours like pear green and lilac add lightness, while expert craftsmanship and leather work resulted in structured bags and intricate floral designs. His contemporary rendering of opulence pairs beautifully with the maison's style.

And then from Roger Vivier’s Très Vivier collection comes a series of patent leather pumps. Available in two heel heights, Felloni’s interpretation of the House’s archival design feature cube heels and large square buckles in polished metal or sparkling crystal. The original 1967 iterations achieved icon status when they were first worn by the likes of Jackie Kennedy and Marlene Dietrich. The booties too were given a square heel.

The bags in this collection are equally covetable. The Très Vivier Strass Buckle Mini Bag comes in velvet, satin, patent leather and is teamed with a gold metal buckle. The chain straps make them convenient for carrying crossbody or over the shoulder, which goes to show Felloni's uncanny ability to reimagine an iconic heritage brand for the modern woman.

A notable mention also goes to the Viv’ Skate Sneakers in the spring/summer 2021 collection, which was inspired by the ’70s skateboarding culture. Featuring clean lines, the sneakers sport the maison’s signature buckle—handmade with 32 crystals. The sneakers are available in shades of pink, yellow and white on white. It's a perfect example of how extravagance is tastefully tempered (and highlighted) with elementary silhouettes and modernity by Felloni's touch.

It was this sense of camp, glamour, nostalgia and sophistication that we wanted to capture in our fashion film-adaptation of the collection. Aptly titled The Spy Game, it follows a young Parisian woman as she stylishly roams around the city of lights. The short also shows the versatility and wearability of the Roger Vivier spring/summer 2021 pieces. After all, a little glamour never hurt anybody.
