Remember the 90s? When Friends ruled the small screen, and Spice Girls dominated the world?
Now, more than ever, we believe that the 90s are back (did it ever leave?) with Balenciaga’s The Lost Tape fall 2022 collection. In line with the whole 90s theme, the luxury house released a video clip, complete with a VHS overlay (similar to what you see on MTV, Fashion TV back in the days) to introduce the collection. All through the clip, you see characters and fashion that characterises the 90s — underground raver-type, minimalistic styles, as well as fashion icons from that era such as Naomi Campbell, Cathy Horyn, Isabelle Huppert and Esther Cañadas giving their reviews on the collection.

For this collection, creative director Demna (who now goes only by his first name) reimagined iconic Balenciaga’s designs for modern comfort — a bell-shaped parka comes with detachable travel pillow attached at the neck; vintage slip dresses are disassembled and put back together again; and five-pocket jeans cut up to create a three-piece silhouette that can be worn as a miniskirt, pants, or XL thigh-high boots.
