Miuccia Prada’s latest Miu Miu collection was a study in reworking staples and twisting the familiar— giving them new shapes and contexts. The humble cotton t-shirt became artfully draped and layered mini dresses; workaday nylon was given sculpted couture volumes; and utility belts were turned into sexy bandeaus. This game of refashioning continued with the accessories, which saw thong sandals hybridised with knee-high and ankle boots. But sweetest of all was the ladylike quilted top- handle bag—that emblem of stuffy Fifties sophistication—now given a sugary, girlish spin in mini sizes and macaron hues.
