Giorgio Armani has pledged that starting with his autumn/winter 2016 collections, every one of his labels is now fur free.

"I am pleased to announce that the Armani Group has made a firm commitment to abolish the use of animal fur in its collections," the designer is quoted as saying in an announcement by the Humane Society International. "Technological progress made over the years allows us to have valid alternatives at our disposition that render the use of cruel practices unnecessary."

Armani's promise comes after a similar commitment was announced by Hugo Boss last year. Claire Bass of the Humane Society International described the move as "hugely significant for the global fashion industry".
