First Look: The Hermès Chaine d'Ancre Punk Collection

The French luxury brand finds an unlikely source of inspiration in the rebellious youth subculture of the '70s for its new jewellery collection

Think of French luxury maison Hermès and the last thing you would associate with it would be the punk movement. Deceptively simple designs, yes. A commitment to quality, yes. But the colourfully mohawked, kohl-lined and pierced individuals? Not very likely.

Yet it seems that Hermès' creative director of jewellery Pierre Hardy, has found a source of inspiration in the subculture, and the beautiful result is its new Chaîne d’ancre Punk collection. Fashioned out of gold (rose, white and yellow), silver, and dripping in diamonds, the humble safety pin (once a symbol of the punk movement) has been given the high jewellery treatment, while retaining its provocative edge.

To celebrate the new collection, Hermès is also holding an exhibition of the Chaîne d’ancre Punk collection at it rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré store in Paris till 29 July 2017, so do make it a point to head over over for a look if you're in town.
