Despite the fact that it is the 21st century and women have made great strides in many areas, there is still a faction of people who finds breastfeeding to be something shameful.

There are endless stories of nursing mothers being criticized for feeding their children in public, sad proof that society still has a long way to go. But some celebrity parents have dedicated themselves to breastfeeding advocacy, sharing photos and giving interviews in support of normalizing this natural act.

1. Kristen Bell

Bell, who is refreshingly open about everything from mum-shaming to marriage counseling, does not understand the fuss about being candid about breastfeeding. She once tweeted a picture of her breast pump to let the world know she was using it backstage during her 2013 CMT Music Awards hosting gig.

“It’s boobs. It’s another part of your body that has skin. Boobs don’t provide the shock and awe to me that they do for some people. It’s comical that people are against feeding in public,” Bell recently told CafeMom. “If it makes you uncomfortable, it’s your responsibility to move away, not mine to cover up. I don’t care where I’m breastfeeding. It never crossed my mind. What crossed my mind is: ‘Was my child hungry?'”

2. Amber Tamblyn

Amber Tamblyn, who is known for her quick wit and for always speaking her mind, recently gave birth to her first daughter and posted on social media about the unfortunate reality of leaking breasts in the early days of breastfeeding. Tamblyn shared a photo on Instagram of her milk-soaked T-shirt, joking “Who Wore It Better? Left tit or right tit? #MilkLife #StarsTheyreJustLikeUs!”

3. Candice Swanepoel

The Victoria’s Secret Angel shared a close-up photo of her newborn son Anacã nursing. The intimate photo was accompanied by a lengthy caption railing against public breastfeeding-shamers and pointing out the hypocrisy that no one criticizes her for the topless photos she has posed for, and yet feel that breastfeeding should be hidden away. “Breastfeeding is not sexual it’s natural,” Swanepoel wrote.

4. Olivia Wilde

The actress has long been outspoken about breastfeeding and her insistence on normalizing it, uploading numerous nursing selfies, showing off her breast-pump equipment and even posing for a gorgeous breastfeeding photo-shoot for Glamour in 2014. In one of her more recent posts, Wilde shared a photo of her with her “drinking buddy” daughter Daisy Josephine Sudeikis.

5. Chrissy Teigen

Teigen has breastfed her baby Luna in both a music video (shout-out to Fergie’s “MILF $”) and on Snapchat. But just because she is open about breastfeeding in public doesn’t mean it came all that easily to her. “You just get so confused about how it’s supposed to feel, and as hard as anyone said it was, I feel like it somehow managed to be harder,” she told People.

6. Tess Holiday

The plus-size model has spoken out in favor of destigmatizing breastfeeding numerous times, posting photos of herself getting her make-up done while nursing and breastfeeding at the Women’s March in January. In her picture of the latter, Holliday edited her caption to clap back at the commenters who told her that she should cover up while breastfeeding her child. “Keep your uneducated opinions off my body,” she wrote.

7. Gisele Bündchen

The former Victoria’s Secret Angel shared what was possibly the most glamorous breastfeeding photo ever, getting her hair and make-up done while she was casually breastfeeding her daughter Vivian. Bundchen is resolutely pro-breastfeeding, and was disparaged when she told us, “There should be a worldwide law that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.”

8. Alyssa Milano

The former Charmed star has posted an endless number of photos of herself nursing her children Milo and Isabella. She also appeared on The Wendy Williams Show and lectured the host about breastfeeding-shaming.

9. Jaime King

The Hart of Dixie actress shared a raw photo of herself happily nursing her eight-month-old son James Knight, singing the praises of breastfeeding as a means of bonding with her child. She also made sure to point out that breastfeeding shouldn’t be taboo, and bottle feeders shouldn’t be judged either.

10. Alanis Morissette

The singer is a known breastfeeding advocate, even appearing in the documentary The Milky Way. This past November, she shared a post that managed to promote voting and breastfeeding in one fell swoop: a photo of her daughter nursing and an “I Voted” sticker right on her bare breast.

11. Peta Murgatroyd

Much like Tamblyn, the new mother and Dancing With the Stars’ Peta Mugratroyd shared a “so NOT hot” photo of herself and her “leaking boobies”, where her milk seeped through her shirt.
