Order a beer at some of the bars on this list, and you're likely to walk away empty-handed. At The Affogato Bar, creative ice cream-and-coffee concoctions make up the menu instead of boozy cocktails. A stone's throw away at The Bakery by Woodlands Sourdough, you'll find a toast bar boasting a variety of spreads (including some made in-house) to go with their eponymous sourdough slices. Read on for a list of bars where the main event is so much more than just alcohol.

The Affogato Bar

Whether you're a coffee snob, a dessert fiend, or both, you will rejoice to see the offerings at The Affogato Bar. With coffee beans and blends from Melbourne's Dimattina Coffee, served alongside everything from chocolate sorbet, brownie chunks and chocolate streuse (Death by Chocolate) to butter pecan ice cream, banana cake, fresh banana slices and pecan crumble (Banana Ramble), you can satiate your sweet tooth and get your caffeine fix at the same time.

The Bakery by Woodlands Sourdough

Serving up "small batch, hand crafted, naturally leavened breads", before grabbing a loaf of two of their signature sourdoughs, be sure to tuck into a selection of toasts from the toast bar. The toppings are far from your standard fare: Think nut butter drizzled with honey and topped off with a generous sprinkle of sea salt; sage cream cheese with luscious berry compote; or for something more substantial, the creamy egg salad and dukkah.

Waa Cow Sushi Bar

Having a bad day at work? With its new outlet at Raffles Xchange, CBD folk can now eat their feelings by tucking into the Japanese-inspired rice bowls at Waa Cow Sushi Bar. Besides its Signature Aburi Wagyu Don, with flame-torched wagyu beef slices, you can also feast on the Yuzu Kosho Iberico Pork bowl, Mentaiko Salmon bowl, as well as their eight signature beef sushi, including ones topped with uni and foie gras.

Village Nasi Lemak Bar

Technically, this spot does turn into a tapas bar at night—but in the day, you'll only find nasi lemak. But it's not your ordinary nasi lemak, of course. In the spirit of new restaurants putting their own spin on beloved classics, here, the cucumber is pickled and, instead of a sunny side-up, you'll get a truffle sous vide egg with your nasi lemak set.

Kara Cafe & Dessert Bar

Run by the folks behind Sogurt, Kara Cafe & Dessert Bar is an Instagrammer's dream. On top of the botanical backdrop and millennial pink walls, the menu is also full of fun, yummy fare such as Okonomiyaki Truffle Tots, mochi waffles, skillet cookies, and many more decadent creations.

Old Hen Coffee Bar

This cafe at Rangoon Road is best known for its bottled cold brews, which go beyond the usual white and black offerings to include Cold Matcha Milk, Cold Dark Cocoa and Cold Mocha. Our protip? Order something from their all-day menu, get a cuppa to sip on, then take away a bottle or two of the cold brews to enjoy later.

Fatcat Ice Cream Bar

At this ice cream bar, the alcoholic beverage of choice is a smoky, magical concoction straight out of the pages of Harry Potter. That's right, you can sip on Fatcat's take on Butter Beer here, along with a rotating lineup of inventive, innovative ice cream flavours like Hay & Honey and Watermelon Soju, and a series of plated desserts that changes with the season.

Starbucks Reserve Coffee Bar

Why have regular ol' coffee when you can have nitrogen-infused coffee? Starbucks Reserve Coffee Bar at United Square not only has Nitro Cold Brew on-tap, it also has an interactive Coffee Bar, where you can choose from the small-batch beans on offer and consult the baristas on which brewing method will suit them best.
