According to The Mirror, Pippa purchased a Merci Maman necklace for the Duchess in 2013 to continue a tradition first started by Princess Diana after the birth of Prince William.

Kate's necklace features a gold-plated disc with the words George Alexander Louis engraved on it, alongside a smaller heart with a 'W' (for William) and a charm in the shape of a little boy.

The necklace that Princess Diana wore, given to her by Prince Charles, was a similar gold disc with the word 'William' engraved on the front.

Merci Maman wrote in a blog post: "Upon the birth of Prince William in 1982, Prince Charles gave Diana the gift of a gold pendant engraved their new son’s name, which she always wore close to her heart."
