Meghan and Harry's Balcony Moment In Fiji Is Just Like Queen Elizabeth & Prince Philip's In 1953

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have arrived in Fiji for the next leg of their first royal tour together, and their visit is a sweet callback to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's own visit to the country in 1953.

Royal commentator Omid Scobie pointed out a significant comparison with the couple's appearance at the Grand Pacific Hotel, tweeting, "History repeating itself. Harry and Meghan’s balcony appearance at the @Grand_Pac_Hotel this evening and the Queen and Prince Philip’s," which took place on December 28, 1953.

As People explains, Queen Elizabeth II visited Fiji following her Coronation in 1953, and her husband Prince Philip traveled with her. A ball was held in the Queen's honor to celebrate the news of her coronation, so Elizabeth and Philip took to the hotel balcony to acknowledge with fans who'd gathered below. The publication also notes that the Queen has stayed at the Grand Pacific Hotel on several occasions, making a visit there somewhat of a royal tradition.

Just as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were celebrating happy news when their balcony wave in Fiji took place, royal fans likely gathered outside of the Grand Pacific Hotel today to congratulate Meghan and Harry following the announcement that they're having a baby.

Upon their arrival in Australia last week, it was announced that Meghan is pregnant with the couple's first child, who is due in the Spring of 2019. Following the royal wedding on May 19, 2018, royal fans are understandably excited to help Meghan and Harry welcome a new member of the family.

The happy circumstances surrounding Harry and Meghan's visit to Fiji make the comparison to Elizabeth and Philip's balcony moment all the sweeter.
