With a wedding to plan and a second book due for release, it's safe to say things are going well for Pippa Middleton. Yet life as the Duchess of Cambridge's younger sister can be tough, she revealed in a rare interview.

"I have had a few years of being in the public eye and I have developed something of a thick skin," the 33-year-old said in an interview with the Daily Mail. "But managing it all on my own has been quite hard. I have quite a lot thrown at me, such as being followed by people hiding behind cars and jumping out with cameras. It can be unnerving."

It's not just Pippa who has to deal with being in the spotlight, either. Her fiancé, James Williams, is now part of the media storm which has followed her ever since she caught the world's attention as Kate's bridesmaid in 2011.

"There's always something cropping up and that has to be managed on my own. It's been a real eye-opener for James," she added. "There have been quite a few hurdles to negotiate."

In a statement about their engagement, Pippa and James confirmed they plan to marry in 2017. And while she admits fame has become "the new normal" for the Middleton family, she isn't happy with the media's perception of her lifestyle.

"People see me as someone privileged who has used my position to advantage; that I don't really work, that I am a socialite—that word really irritates me—and that I'm a party girl without any substance," she revealed.

Pippa, who is passionate about healthy food and fitness, is promoting the release of her second book, Heartfelt, in association with the British Heart Foundation. She has been an ambassador for the charity since 2014 and has worked with experts on producing 100 recipes that are low in salt and sugar.

This meant cutting out her much-loved ingredients, including feta, anchovies and olives, and learning to love spice. "I leaned more heavily on citrus and garlic, and spices that provide heat, such as chili, and paprika," she said. As for her favourite dish? It's one she remembers enjoying with her husband-to-be.

"I am sure he might choose a different dish as his favourite, but it was a very special dinner for us," Pippa said. "You roast the halibut and serve it with lentils. It's delicious. James loves it."
