A Paris garden, with a strong fashion link, is to open as a theme park next year following a €60 million (about $71.5 million) redevelopment.

Luxury goods multinational LVMH, which looks after brands including Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton and Fendi, has confirmed it has been given planning permission to convert the 157-year-old Jardin d'Acclimatation into one of France's top amusement parks.

Sadly, it won't be fashion-themed, but the 18-hectare space in the Bois de Boulogne, which has been managed by LVMH since 1984, is likely to benefit from the company's substantial input.

LVMH will work in partnership with Compagnie des Alpes, a theme parks and ski resorts developer, to modernize 25 existing rides and add 17 new attractions to the park. The partners aim to convert the current two million visitors a year to three million by 2025.

The park is due to open next spring and instead of a couture influence, LVMH said the overall theme will be a "steampunk" spirit that takes inspiration from the 19th century, mixing science fiction with fantasy.

Nature is said to be a focus of the transformation, with an "ecological promenade" in the pipeline. The landscaping will also be restructured, drawing inspiration from the park's original design, and perhaps most importantly, the food and drink offering is getting a revamp.

And if visitors want to get a culture fix? The Louis Vuitton Foundation sits right next door.

The future Jardin d'Acclimatation will be completed on May 1, 2018.
