Why Rising Star David Corenswet Should Be On Your Radar

26-year-old David Corenswet is not only easy on the eyes, but incredibly charming too. He’s the breakout star of the Netflix miniseries Hollywood—created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan—where he plays Jack Castello, a World War II veteran, expectant father and aspiring actor. 

Hollywood is the Juilliard School graduate’s second time appearing in a series by Murphy, the first being The Politician as River Barkley—a satirical take on America’s current political landscape, laced with camp and queer overtones—which he almost didn’t get because he kept stumbling on his lines during his audition.

Unlike many of his leading actor counterparts (think: the likes of Henry Cavill in Man of Steel and James Marsden in the X-Men films), David’s preparation for his role of Tinseltown’s latest ingenue in the Netflix Original Series involved watching a lot of old Hollywood films such as Singing in the Rain, Guys and Dolls, A Rebel Without a Cause and East of Eden.

His character, Jack Castello, is reminiscent of the likes of James Dean, Montgomery Clift and Marlon Brando, to name a few. So now you understand why and how all that movie watching comes into play. Jack Castello’s storyline isn’t something totally unheard of in the entertainment industry: boy wants to become a Hollywood actor, boy turns to turning tricks (read: male escort) to make ends meet, boy makes friends in high places and boy achieves success. This is of course the TL;DR version. The real, albeit more complicated, storyline is meatier and packed with emotional rollercoasters which will have you rooting for him (and everyone else) at the end.

These days, David spends his time in self-isolation working on reading and writing scripts (as he’s done for the last four years), making audition tapes and shooting music videos for his friend. Prior to which, he was busy filming on set for the second season of The Politician.

Many of you are probably wondering if this sweet and charming man is single. Well, we don’t know. What we do know is that he does spend a lot of time with animals (brownie points there) and his co-stars from both Ryan Murphy productions—do we smell a bromance brewing? We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
