As members of the press eagerly awaited Rihanna's always-fashionably late arrival, one lonely New York City cockroach decided it was the perfect moment to bolt down the red carpet. Kevin Mazur, a veteran Getty Images photographer, took one for the team and captured close-up images of the roach which quickly went viral across the Internet. The 2023 Met Gala paid tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, the legendary designer most closely associated with his tenure as the creative director of Chanel. The Costume Institute describes the spring 2023 exhibition as an exploration of “the work of Karl Lagerfeld. Focusing on the designer’s stylistic vocabulary as expressed in aesthetic themes that appear time and again in his fashions from the 1950s to his final collection in 2019, the show will spotlight the German-born designer’s unique working methodology.”
