This New Collection of Helmut Newton's Photography Is a Must-See

The erotically-charged black and white photography made an indelible mark on the fashion world

Helmut Lang

The late Helmut Newton is known for his black and white photography that always erred towards the erotic and left a provocative stamp on the fashion industry. Now, one of the largest exhibitions of his work to ever exist outside of a private collection is here. "This is Helmut Newton’s personal journey seen through the eyes of his lens," says art and antiques collector Guy Regal, who curated the exhibition. "In addition to including some of his most iconic works, we see self-portraits taken from his teenage years through the height of his career, and photos of the celebrities that defined his generation. For the Guy Regal gallery, photography has become an important medium and acquiring this collection has been a unique thrill." This is a thrilling collection indeed, and one the fashion set is sure to flock to.

The exhibition will open to the public on January 25 at 49 Chambers Street, following an opening reception the evening before. On January 29, the exhibition will travel uptown to The New York Design Center, 200 Lexington Avenue, to the Guy Regal gallery, where it will run until March 2.
