Mums are often the pillars of the family, sacrificing their own interests for the sake of raising their children into responsible and kind adults. They are also, often, pretty darn exhausted from juggling the many roles of mother, daughter, wife, career woman, sister and more. Mums of course would say motherhood is the best job in the world, but although that is true, let the leading ladies of your home rest this special day, and treat them to a splendid meal to honour their presence and to show your appreciation for their hard work. Here’re 17 options to choose from.

1. Gordon Grill or Coffee Lounge at Goodwood Park Hotel

Goodwood-Park-Hotel-Weekend-Roast-Lunch

If your mum loves her English cuisine, treat her to a lovely Sunday roast lunch, which comes with delicious appetisers such as Provencal Snails, Green Pea & Melted Curry Butter, a soup of Lobster Bisque, Wild Mushroom Velouté, or Soupe Du Jour, and a choice of a substantial main. Fish lovers will love the Fresh Catch Fillet with Seaweed Rice, Baby Spinach & Lemon White Wine Sauce which is light and refreshing, while those who have a hearty appetite can go for a succulent Slow Roasted U.S. Prime Beef Rib Eye On Wagon (220g per serving) paired with Yorkshire Pudding, Silky Mash, Garden Vegetables and Own Jus Gravy, or Grilled Lamb Chop and Pork Loin with Potato Gratin, Mustard Cabbage and Balsamic Glaze.

Delight your mum’s sweet tooth with desserts that include the signature Gordon Sherry Trifle. For a less casual affair, you can also try its dinner set, which has appetisers of Heirloom Tomatoes, Bocconcini, Balsamic Jelly & Tomato Consommé, and King Scallop, Parma Ham, Leek & Creamy Onion Sauce. Choose from mains such as the Wagyu Beef Striploin served with Black Truffle Jus, or Pan-Seared Scottish Salmon served with Lemon Dill Sauce, both which are served with complementary sides of German White Asparagus and Broccolini. The Mont Blanc Choux Pastries with Chantilly Cream and Chocolate ends the meal on a sweet high.

Mum more of a simple Chinese cuisine kinda girl? Goodwood Park’s popular Taiwan Porridge A La Carte Buffet will hit the spot. Mum can make unlimited orders from a list of more than 30 options, such as the savoury Braised Pork Belly with Dark Soy Sauce, Stir-Fried Kang Kong with Sambal, and Fried Omelette with Chye Poh (preserved vegetables). When paired with a hearty sweet potato porridge, it’s a comforting meal for all ages. Bonus? The buffet comes with a dessert buffet that’s heaped with D24 Durian offerings. There’s a ‘live’ pancake station that you can fill with a luxurious D24 durian filling, as well as the new D24 Pandan Lapis Coconut Cake and D24 Chendol Pudding, not to mention the D24 Mousse Cake and D24 Puff. If mum’s a durian lover, this will make you her favourite daughter.

Because we’re a lover of Asian cuisine, this one got us pretty excited. Fat Chap is presenting a communal table spread or Kembul Bujana, a common Indonesian practice to party over a feast. An impressive, Instagram-worthy lush platter of Nasi Tumpeng (a Southeast Asian cone-shaped rice dish with side dishes) awaits — with coconut scented butterfly pea rice, roasted kampong chicken, grilled whole fish, tempeh, perkedel and sambal prawns. It’s also served with sides of prawn crackers, caramelised silverfish and peanuts, egg ribbons and a variety of vegetables cooked two ways. End the meal with a refreshing shaved ice dessert with fresh coconut and rose syrup – traditionally named Es Kopyor.

Before the meal, mum can also glean some tips from a live cooking demonstration by Medanese head chef Selamat Susanto. He will be showcasing a simple kampong chicken marinate recipe and demonstrating how to prepare perkedel or potato cake at home. Mum will thank you for this.

About: Available on May 12, 12pm to 5pm. S$68++ per pax. Call 6836 5994 or email hello@fatchap.sg for reservations.
