Viola Davis Now Has An Emmy, Grammy, Oscar And Tony

The actress picked up her "G" with a Grammy win for her audiobook Finding Me.

Viola Davis is officially an EGOT winner!

The esteemed actress achieved the rarefied status today, after winning a Grammy in the audiobook, narration and storytelling recording category for her memoir Finding Me. With the award for her audiobook narration, The Woman King star has won each of the "big four" entertainment awards–an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony.

The superstar accepted her Grammy during the awards' Premiere Ceremony telecast this afternoon. For the event, she wore a short-sleeved gown by Naeem Khan, adorned in silver, black, red, and blue sequins in a quilted pattern.

"I wrote this book to honour the six-year-old Viola," she said in her acceptance speech. "To honor her life, her joy, her trauma, everything, and it has been such a journey. "I just EGOT!"

Davis won an Emmy in 2015 for her leading role in the drama series How to Get Away With Murder. She later earned her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 2017 film Fences, several years after receiving a Tony Award for the same role in stage version of August Wilson's play. She received her first-ever Tony in 2001 for best featured actress in a play in Wilson's King Hedley II.

She joins an exclusive list of 17 other people who have also become EGOT winners, including people like John Legend, Rita Moreno, Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, and Jennifer Hudson, who achieved the designation in June 2022.
