2022 Beijing Winter Olympics

The next Olympic Games are set to occur in Beijing in just months, from Friday, February 4, to Sunday, February 20, 2022. The event will make Beijing the first city to host both a Summer and Winter Olympics, and the official torches will reportedly resemble that of the cauldron from the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, the city's last Olympics, in its intent to honor the legacy of Beijing.

Per TODAY, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics will house a record of 109 events across its seven standard sports—biathalon, curling, ice hockey, luge, bobsledding, skating, and skiing—with the following additional new events: ski jumping, snowboard cross, mixed team competitions in freestyle skiing aerials, women's monobob, men's and women's big air freestyle, and a mixed relay in short track speed skating.

While the number of in-person spectators at Tokyo's Summer Olympics was limited due to coronavirus safety concerns, Reuters reported that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) intends on welcoming a considerably greater number of in-person fans for the coming Winter Olympic Games. "We want to have the opportunity for everybody to enjoy the hospitality and enjoy the great Chinese offers," the IOC coordination commission head, Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr., told the news outlet.

2024 Paris Summer Olympics

The following Summer Olympics will be based in Paris, from Friday, July 26, to Sunday, August 11, 2024.

Along with its standard 28 sports, per the event's official website, the 2024 Games will also see a provisional inclusion of breakdancing, sport climbing, skateboarding, and surfing. "The four sports that Paris has proposed are all totally in line with Olympic Agenda 2020 because they contribute to making the programme more gender balanced and more urban, and offer the opportunity to connect with the younger generation," IOC President Thomas Bach said. "The proposed sports are in line with these principles and enhance Paris 2024's overall dynamic Games concept, which focuses on inclusivity, inspiring a new audience and hosting socially responsible Games."

USA Today also reported that the Paris 2024 Board of Directors has approved a climate change strategy that strives to minimize greenhouse gas emissions and promote greater use of renewable energy within venues. "Paris 2024 is pioneering a new model for Olympic Games delivery, fully aligned with Olympic Agenda 2020," Bach said, per the Olympic Channel. "The IOC is particularly excited to see that Paris 2024 is aiming to organise climate-positive Games already in 2024, in this way setting the pace for future organisers."
