Here's What You Need To Know About Tiffany And Co.'s First Collaboration Ever
The quintessential American jeweller pairs up with this retail rule-breaker in a surprising move
Dover Street Market has had a long history of attracting the best in the fashion industry to collaborate with, and this holiday season, the maverick retail store has gotten us all excited over an exclusive collaboration with an American jewellery institution: Tiffany And Co.
Titled the Out of Retirement collection, Tiffany's design director Francesca Amfitheatrof drew inspiration from the iconic Tiffany Blue Book, choosing statement pieces from the 1970s and reworked them into an 18-piece collection for Dover Street Market consisting of eight jewelry designs and ten gift items in sterling silver and 18 carat gold.
Showstopping pieces include a sterling silver fish flask, riffing on the old “ drink like a fish” adage, a pillbox shaped like a miniature Chinese take-out container and a trio of money clips in 18 carat gold that take the form of a dollar sign or postal envelope.
Speaking about the collection to The New York Times, CEO of Comme des Garçons International (the owners of Dover Street Market) Adrian Joffe said, “We’re always innovating and always believing in the creation of something that didn’t exist before, something new, and yet we so firmly believe in tradition, authenticity. The things that Tiffany has always done have remained timeless, also with Comme des Garçons — it never dates. You can buy a thing from 20, 40 years ago, it’s still relevant.”
Also, the classic Tiffany Blue Box will replace its signature white ribbon with black on all Out of Retirement packaging, in honour of its partnership with Dover Street Market.
The Tiffany And Co. Out of Retirement holiday collection will be available at Dover Street Market (New York, London and Tokyo) from November 2015 to January 2016.
