Meet The Designer Behind Katy Perry's Statement Earrings

While we often credit Katy Perry for candy land dresses and ever-changing hair, there's no doubt that the singer has some style kudos. Case in point: the earrings she was spotted wearing on a recent trip to Colombia. Made by Colombian-based designer Mercedes Salazar, the festive earrings pay homage to the designer's Colombian roots. With a special focus on detailed hand-made fabrication and ethnic Latin American materials, their aesthetic is tropical chic. "The earrings are international with a Latin soul," says Salazar. "The concept behind them was about implementing traditional, Latin-American in earrings that would appeal an international audience".
It seems she succeeded, because the earrings have not only become favorites among Latin American It-girls, but also caught the attention of Katy Perry. "A friend of mine called me and told me that Katy Perry was wearing my earrings. I rushed to her Instagram page and saw my earrings in several of her pictures. She fell in love with them… she even wore them on her birthday. I was so excited!" says Salazar. "Each pair of earrings is hand-made by an artisan, making each piece very valuable. They're fun, they cheer you up. They are powerful… they boost your confidence and make you feel sexy".
