One would describe the creations of Cartier as cool and chic, yet ultimately classic and timeless. This year, the luxury maison has brought back one of its time-honoured watches with a film directed by Sofia Coppla. Say hello to the Panthère de Cartier, version 2017.

First launched in 1983, the Panthère was a quintessential timepiece of its decade, popular amongst women and men alike (think Grace Jones, Pierce Brosnan etc.). It was since discontinued in the early 2000s.

Aside from relaunching the '80s 'IT' watch in two sizes, nine different finishes and materials, Cartier has tapped on Sofia Coppola to direct direct the film for the Panthère de Cartier collection. An Oscar-winning writer and Oscar-nominated producer and director, Coppola was most recently named Best Director at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival for her new film 'The Beguiled' starring Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning and Kirsten Dunst. Not only is she known for her keen visual sense, Sofia Coppola is also an icon of effortless style, taste and contemporary elegance.

"I remember the glamourous kind of women who wore a Panthère watch (in the '80s). It was just a stylish time to remember and to propose a modern interpretation of it", says Coppola when approached to direct the Cartier film.
