The much-anticipated AirPods got a refresh at the Apple Keynotes event in October. Now in its third generation, the latest AirPods 3 is packed with upgrades from its predecessor.

Right off the bat, you can see that the design harks back to the AirPods Pro, in terms of its wider case and the shape of the earbuds. Compared to the AirPods 2, the current version’s earbuds have shorter stems, making them more comfortable to wear and less likely to get caught on to things such as earrings, clothes etc. The buds themselves are also redesigned to feature a larger acoustic vent at the top, giving you richer bass.

The new contour design of the buds also utilises the H1 chip to deliver an amazing audio experience with Adaptive EQ. Coupled with the latest iOS15.1, they’re able to deliver Spatial Audio for an immersive 3D experience. Whether it’s watching a movie on Apple TV or being in a Group FaceTime Call, Spatial Audio applies a directional audio filter so you get a surround-sound theatre experience.

The new AirPods are rated IPX4, which means both the case and earbuds are resistant to sweat and water.

The new AirPods also fit into your active lifestyle. Rated IPX4 for both the buds and charging case, the AirPods are resistant to both sweat and water, so you can take them with you when you work out. They also have also an improved battery life, offering up to six hours of listening time and four hours of talk time. A quick five minutes in the charging case gives the AirPods enough juice to last for an hour while leaving it in the case can get you up to 30 hours of listening time. The case also supports MagSafe, meaning you can just pop it on any Magsafe charger for convenient charging.

Who are the new AirPods for though? If you belong to a camp where active noise cancellation is not a priority, then definitely pick these up instead of the AirPods Pro. The immersive experience of Spatial Audio and the superior microphone that gives you crystal-clear audio during calls makes the new AirPods 3 an amazing value at $269. One point to note, even though the design of the AirPods 3 looks similar to that of the AirPods Pro, its charging case is smaller which means the cases and pouches cannot be used interchangeably.
