Science and fashion come together seamlessly for this stylish medical student.

Krison Sum is in his final year at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. His fashion endeavours, as he describes, are his only activity outside of school. While his appreciation of craftsmanship and design with a playful hint is at the core of his love for Bottega Veneta’s Matthieu Blazy, he’d love to do a wardrobe swap with Lewis Hamilton mainly for his pre-race fits. But the most important man in his life is his father, who is his biggest supporter and role model.

“I remember being quite particular with how I dressed and looked as a child. My first fashion memory was stressing over an outfit to impress the girls at my primary six graduation night when I was 12—it was the first major event I attended. I eventually landed on a pair of skinny jeans and a fitted biker-jacket, which I was really proud of back then.”

FIRST LOVE

“My Bottega Veneta jacket from its pre-spring 2023 collection will always serve as a constant reminder to myself that in the midst of all fashion’s extravagance and showmanship, what I genuinely love is simple: extremely well-made clothes in beautiful silhouettes.”

EXTRA FLAVOUR

“While I’d describe my style as comfy-playful-chic, my friends and family see my style as being foundationally clean with elements of flamboyance. My look for the Kenzo show is a good example, where my base outfit is fuss-free, but the element of an oversized hat and shoes add a touch of character and edge.”

SCRUBS IN DESIGN

“I would love to see Kolor design a line of medical scrubs. Founded by Junichi Abe, husband of Chitose Abe, the brand has a great sense of colour and materials. I think it would add a nice, creative touch and joy to scrubs when it comes together. It’d also be cool to see Carhartt come up with scrubs, especially with their workwear culture.”

ONE FOR LIFE

“If I had to choose one brand for life, it’d be Issey Miyake’s spring/summer 2024 collection with its exaggerated yet understated feel. Comfortable, reasonably priced, and the fact that everything can be machine-washed shows that fabric innovation and luxury can come together for a brand that is committed to creating pieces for its community.”
