As climate change continues to wreak havoc on the planet we live in, saving the earth and sea has become top priority for many dedicated conservationists.

Nekton is one such agency committed to protecting the oceans. One of its missions — First Descent — was set up to explore and conserve the Indian Ocean. Work started in 2019 and is expected to resume next year.

And Omega has pledged to support Nekton for the series of missions on its calendar.

Omega’s President and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann says in a press statement: “Our friends at Nekton are protecting the ocean with the global goal of 30% protection by 2030. As a pioneering brand with a long history of pushing at the boundaries of what is possible, we have the utmost respect for this bold, confident vision and we’re thrilled to help make the goal a reality“.

And what better watch to mark this partnership than the Seamaster Diver 300M, a watch that has played a key role in Omega’s ocean story?

In fact, Nekton named its research submersible Seamaster 2 as a nod to Omega and tribute to the boat skippered by the late Sir Peter Blake, who was not only a passionate advocate for ocean conservation but also a friend of Omega.

To honour the foundation, the Nekton Edition features an embossed Nekton submarine medallion engraved with NAIADLOCK, DIVER 300M on its oriented caseback.

Other highlights of the watch include a laser ablated black ceramic [ZrO2] dial with matt finish, as well as unidirectional rotating bezel in grade 5 titanium with laser ablated diving scale in positive relief.

The Nekton Edition uses the Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 with rhodium-plated rotor and bridges, and is certified by METAS that it can resist magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss.

There are two models available: One with an integrated black rubber strap with polished-brushed buckle to complement the black ceramic dial, and the other comes with a stainless steel bracelet to give the Diver a dressier look.
