Navigating your hair and scalp type can be challenging and let's face it, overwhelming. Besides, we live in the tropics, which generally means increased perspiration and an elevated rate of sebum production. To make things easier, John Frieda House of Experts, Dexter Ng and Ken Hong, are here to set the record straight.

Myth #1: Washing your hair everyday will dry it out.

Truth: "On the contrary, not washing your hair daily can result in oil and microscopic particles clogging up your pores, causing acne and even hair loss. This is because in Singapore's weather, washing your hair daily with a gentle shampoo is the best way to keep it healthy. Try John Frieda Miraculous Recovery Shampoo daily to moisturise your hair and keep it clean without drying it out," says Dexter.

Myth #2: Blow-drying your hair daily will damage it.

Truth: "Not if you set your hair dryer on low heat. Alternatively, applying heat a protectant product will also help prevent heat damage," explains Ken.

Myth #3: Plucking grey hairs will cause more to grow.

Truth: "Pulling grey hairs (or any hair at all for that matter), can damage your hair follicles, which may lead to a disruption in healthy hair growth cycle. It will not result in the growth of more grey hair," says Ken.

Myth #4: Colouring hair damages it.

Truth: "With advances in technology, hair colouring today is less damaging than ever before. Hair dyes are now loaded with extra conditioners and strengthening proteins, and contain lower levels of ammonia. Even bleaching can be gentle on hair when done properly. Any product in the wrong hands is a potential disaster waiting to happen, so always seek out the professional advice of a colourist," advises Dexter.

Myth #5: You need to switch up your hair products so your hair doesn't get used to them.

Truth: "When you find products that work for your hair and scalp type, stick to them. However, the needs of your hair might change, depending on hormonal fluctuations or a change in climate. You should only switch out a product when it isn't effective on your hair," cautions Ken.
