"You get what you give" is possibly one of the most important life reminders we need as humans. More often than not, we get consumed by the pretty things, coveting the new IT bag, flaunting a gem-encrusted watch or buying yet another red lipstick... all while blissfully ignoring the aspect of unnecessary frivolity that comes with such indulgences, big or small.

That said, we all genuinely deserve to treat ourselves. The key is to try and do so more ethically and responsibly as possible—and to celebrate any brand, organisation or individual who makes an effort to pay it forward.

Enter Amorepacific, South Korea's largest beauty conglomerate that has successfully revolutionised the skincare and makeup industry while positively impacting the world through beauty. Besides giving us beloved brands like Sulwhasoo, Laneige, Hera and Mamonde, Amorepacific is a leader in industry changing innovation, having pioneered products like the cushion compact and sleeping mask, as well as dozens of patented technologies and formulations.

In partnership with the National Cancer Centre Singapore, Amorepacific Singapore has the "Makeup Your Life" initiative, which supports women fighting cancer in the Little Red Dot. Into its third year, the programme welcomed 50 patients from NCCS to a special weekend of learning activities that highlight the ways beauty products can help to alleviate the effects of cancer therapies with products from Amorepacific brands.

Alongside company trainers who recommended skincare to address concerns like chronic sensitivity, skin imbalances and blemishes, the tutorials were also led by Tay Shan Min, a cancer survivor, who presented stylish ways to wear a scarf for those suffering from chemotherapy related hair loss. Four makeup artist-volunteers, Grego Oh, TG Goh, Christine Lim and Ginger Leong, were also there to inject lots of fun and colour through makeup classes, for patients to learn ways to accentuate their features and uplift both their mien and confidence.

Lysan Chew, General Manager of Amorepacific Singapore said: "With makeup your Life, our corporate mission is to support and improve the lives of women fighting cancers, as we advocate greater awareness for early cancer detection to reduce cancer mortality rate".

The Makeup Your Life programme is part of the Amorepacific Group's global 20 by 20 Commitment "to beautify the lives of 200,000 women by 2020 in contribution to their health, well being and economic development". As of December 2018, Amorepacific has supported over 280,000 women, and is also part of the UN's "Ever Woman Every Child" global movement, in support of women and children all over the world.

“Makeup Your Life has truly lifted the spirits and empowered many NCCS patients as they undergo, and recover from cancer treatment. Our patients feel better when they look good! We see them regain joy and confidence after the makeup session each time and this year's scarf styling adds even more fun and creativity. We see such boosts as vital in our journey with patients towards recovery and health after cancer.” Dr Veronique Tan Kiak Mien, Senior Consultant, Division of Surgical Oncology, National Cancer Centre Singapore.
