Animal Instincts: Scents That Appeal To Your Primal Nature

Unleash your inner beast.

Fragrance is an integral part of a beauty routine. Though refined and elegant in its concoction, these fragrances bring out the untamed femininity and carnal nature in every one of us.

Light and dark, dusk and dawn—one cannot exist without the other. Cartier’s feline-floral scent, La Panthère, reveals this duality as well. Revel in the warmth of La Panthère Parfum (left; $198 for 75ml), which exudes the honeyed apricot notes of osmanthus through the gardenia flowers. Or opt for an airy take on this iconic fragrance with the La Panthère Eau de Toilette (right; $159 for 75ml), a gentle wash of light gardenia infused with delicate musk for a breath of freshness.

Concocted in 2014, Cartier’s La Panthère Eau de Parfum ($188 for 75ml) is a bold and sensual fragrance that celebrates the complex aspects of a woman—independence, grace and rebelliousness. The core of the chypre fragrance is built around a woody and mossy accord, overlaid with hints of citrus and florals. Cartier’s in-house Perfumer Mathilde Laurent captured the animalistic qualities of musk, adding a touch of delicate gardenia to heighten the femininity.

Fresh and elegant at first whiff, The Tragedy of Lord George Eau De Parfum by Penhaligon’s ($420 for 75ml) has a twist in its tale. Beneath the head notes of lavender and rum which lends a boozy rush to this sophisticated scent, is a heart of warm tonka beans, surrounded by a trio of woody ambrox, vetiver and cedarwood base notes.

Like a serpent which seeks out warmth, bask in the heady notes of Christian Louboutin Beauty’s Oriental amber, the Loubiprince Eau de Parfum Intense ($490 for 90ml). Let the deep, rich notes of cistus labdanum, sandalwood and tonka bean envelope you in its comforting cocoon.
