Korean Pink Look

Pink is the new black, and Korean celebrities like Kim Tae Hee, Park Shin-Hye, Lee Sung Kyung and Song Hye-Kyo are showing off different ways to wear the colour on your eyes, cheeks and lips. To be pretty in pink, consider your skin tone, so if you’re fair, have fun with pale and baby pinks like beauty blogger Pony. If you are tanned, go for a peach or mauve-y pink. And if you’re feeling really adventurous, try a monochromatic look, but avoid looking cartoonish by keeping it soft and romantic with brown eyeliner and choosing matte over glossy and shiny textures.

“Most ladies should be able to pull off Lee Sung Kyung’s pink look,” says makeup artist Cindy Goh. To achieve this look yourself, remember to “accentuate only one area (either on the eyes or the lips) and keep the rest of the face soft,” says Goh. Start by prepping your skin with a plumping moisturiser for a smooth and dewy finish. Following with a radiance-enhancing primer and a sheer coverage foundation to even out skin tone. According to Goh, apply a rosy pink or nude eyeshadow all over the lids, then use a brown kohl pencil to softly define your eyes. Follow with a powder pink blusher for that lightly diffused effect and finish with a rose lip colour.

“Park Shin-Hye draws attention to her pout with stained lips,” says makeup artist, Marc Teng. According to Teng, choosing a warmer shade of pink can make the look more elegant. Alternatively, you can go for a coral shade, which makes it easier to pull off for most Asian skin tones. “Try using a matte lipstick to achieve this look,” advises Teng. “Dab on lipstick with fingers or beauty blender to achieve a more natural, softer lip stained look. For more intensity, use a lip brush to paint on the lipstick and then the tip of your finger to drag and smudge the colour around the outer corner of the lip line,” he adds. To complete the look, define your eyes with a slight flick of liquid eyeliner for a winged effect and a touch of glam.

“If you’re fair like Song Hye-Kyo and want to look more youthful, wearing a bold pink lip is the way to go,” says makeup artist Manisa Tan. “It’s important to prep your skin with a good moisturiser so that your foundation goes on smoothly and you achieve an ethereal glow to complement the pink lip,” Tan adds, “and remember to set the foundation with loose powder to help it last longer”. Don’t forget to apply a lip treatment product before lipstick to create a smooth and plump base.
