Former beauty editor, Founder of artisanal aromatherapy brand Mmerci Encore
I’m addicted to… Cleansing balms. It started in Paris, while having a facial treatment at Joelle Ciocco.
It was all because of… My therapist, who told me that double cleansing at night leaves my skin (which is sensitive) clean enough when I wake up, so a spritz of toner or water is sufficient to wash sleep away. She encouraged me to opt for balms or cleansing milks over stripping facial washes, then add hemp oil and minerals in ampoule form to my skin (the kind I raided French pharmacies for years till the specific lab went out of business).
I simply cannot live without… Mahalo’s Unveil Cleanser Melt Concentrate, Eve Lom’s cleansing balm and Josh Rosebrook’s Hydrating Accelerator and Revitalash’s RevitaBrow.
My self-care ritual is… Magical, theatrical, and so nourishing. If you’re an empath like me, you need to take time out to recalibrate and recharge. I light candles, apply oils on my body, read books, give myself elaborate head-to-toe skin, hair and body treatments, massage my face, and generally get very still.
When it comes to treatments, I love… Anything involving the bath or bathing rituals. My favourite treatment is Remède Spa’s Signature Black Soap and Rassoul Hammam Ritual. For 90 minutes, your body is worshipped on a marble altar as a therapist soaps, scrubs and bathes you. The pièce de résistance for me is the carafe of orange blossom water they baptise your body in when it’s all done.
My most lavish beauty splurges are… The two-and-a-half-hour Wellness Escape at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore’s Chi, The Spa. You can select as many treatments as you like in that time, and that for me includes a Biologique Recherche facial.
I indulge in guilty pleasures like… Candlelit showers (it’s really relaxing for the eyes), Ritz Carlton’s Hot Lapis Stone massage treatment, the odd scalp treatment and blowout, and pedicures!
My ultimate beauty dream is… Having my own in-house spa with treatments on call. Perhaps even a little wellness centre out back with water therapy, yoga and other healing modalities. Everyone’s
invited, of course
