Dianna Lee On Building Confidence – From Ballroom Dancing to Facial Structure

For the social media maven, confidence has always been about training the foundation – whether in life, identity, or the muscles that shape her face

Dianna Lee radiates a particular kind of confidence – the earned, not accidental kind. Known to her followers as “Your Online Mother”, the content creator has built a digital presence addressing what many women navigate in silence: rebuilding identity after motherhood, the complexities of marriage, and the quiet work of becoming yourself again and again.

Raised by “hypercritical perfectionist musicians”, Dianna grew up believing talent and ability mattered more than appearance. She describes her younger self as a chubby girl with low self-esteem in a family that valued virtuosity over vanity. Her confidence only began to build at UC Berkeley, where competitive Latin Ballroom dancing taught her that self-assurance comes from repetition and exposure.

Entering the workforce brought about another realisation.

“The ROI (return on investment) on beauty is huge and often underestimated,” Dianna says. Appearance often influenced who got heard and taken seriously. It was a truth her intellectual upbringing hadn’t prepared her for.

She admits that in her 20s, she was negligent about beauty and age prevention. Only in her 30s did she become more thoughtful and exploratory when it came to anti-ageing procedures. She approached beauty the way she did with ballroom dancing – as a system to master.

Dianna Lee believes beauty, like ballroom dancing, is a discipline – one that rewards intention, strategy and long-term investment.

“I came from completely not caring about self-care or beauty to now being intentional,” she says.

Now in her 40s, she believes that maintaining muscle tone on her face is the key to maintaining a youthful look. As such, she chooses high-performing, science-backed solutions like Emface that focus on foundation building, rather than surface-level results. It addresses the two key drivers of facial ageing – loss of muscle tone and structural support – and works on conditioning the facial muscles while stimulating collagen production.

“Emface treatments are  part of my routine because it works directly on facial muscles and collagen, helping restore muscle tone and supporting my face shape in a way that feels natural and aligned with how I care for my body overall.”

The science of structural lifting

Facial sagging begins from the ageing and weakening of multiple facial layers beneath the skin such as bone, muscle and fat. As muscles weaken, the supportive framework of the face diminishes, contributing to loss of firmness and facial definition. In the past, addressing muscle laxity may have typically required surgical intervention.

A US FDA-cleared non-invasive treatment, Emface was developed to target the muscle layer directly, lifting the face from its foundation rather than focusing solely on skin-level concerns. By building support in the muscle layer underneath, the skin on top looks firmer, smoother and more lifted.

“After a series of treatment sessions, I noticed improvements in my under-eye area, especially in the reduction of eye bags,” Dianna says. “What I found fascinating is that there are specific muscles around the under-eye region that help support the layers of tissue above.”

Targeting support at the foundation layers, Emface tones facial muscles even in delicate areas, like under the eyes.

She adds: “When those muscles are toned, they can help reduce the sagging and bulging that appear as under-eye bags. Conceptually, it reminds me of facial yoga – as a dancer, I really believe in how muscle engagement can transform appearance.”

The device’s patented Hifes (High-Intensity Facial Electrical Stimulation) technology induces supramaximal muscle contractions beyond what voluntary exercise – or facial yoga – can accomplish. These contractions tone targeted facial muscles, helping to create a firmer internal scaffolding for the face.

When it comes to her day-to-day schedule, juggling three children and work means Dianna relies on being highly efficient to stay on top of things. She keeps to an uncomplicated skincare routine, relying instead on in-clinic treatments like Emface – which usually takes 20 minutes per session – to deliver results lasting from six months to a year.

“It has made my life so much simpler,” she says. “Instead of spending an hour a day on self-care at home with different devices, I go for Emface sessions for deeper tightening and toning.”
