We know that it’s summer all year round in Singapore, but there’s something about the approach of the mid-year that makes you want to chill on a lounge bed beside the crashing waves of the ocean with a mojito in your hands. In case you can’t do that, the least you can do is to fake that glowing skin that comes with lounging under sun with a well-applied highlighter. Choose one with a bronze-coloured base to mimic that sun-kissed glow, like these eight here:

1. Milani Hypnotic Lights Powder Highlighter in #04 Flashing Light, $23.85, from selected Watsons stores

With light reflecting pearl pigments that give a subtle glow, this highlighter has a super smooth formula that glides on skin effortlessly. In case you haven’t heard of this new-to-Singapore brand, Milani is an LA beauty label that’s a cult favourite among beauty editors, influencers and real women alike, because it offers quality makeup products at affordable prices. Besides this highlighter, you should check out its best-selling foundations, lipsticks and blusher too.

2. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Topaz, $58, from Sephora

This has a buttery, melt-into-skin texture and luminescent pearl pigments that adjust to your skin’s undertone so it doesn’t look unnatural.

3. Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo in Afternoon Snack/Mo’ Hunny, $54, from Sephora

This new shade duo from Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty is one of our new go-to highlighters for glowing skin. Afternoon Snack is a soft bronzed champagne and Mo’ Hunny gives more intense shimmer. Use either alone or sweep a brush across both of them to get an in-between glow. The cream-powder formula is packed with superfine shimmer, so you might want to pick up a little product at a time so you don’t go overboard with the glow, especially with Mo’ Hunny.

4. Zoeva Screen Queen Highlighter Palette, $30, from Sephora

We say this palette is good value for money because the three shades are versatile. To fake a sun-kissed glow, we say go for the shade Pearls and Fine Silks, which will flatter most Asian skin tones. The other two shades can be used to create different looks; use Aloof Beauty for more subtle, everyday wear, and Absolutely Flawless for a more dramatic, holographic highlighter look.

5. Pixi Pixiglow Cake Highlighter & Illuminator in Pink Champagne Glow, $42, from Sephora

It’s hard to find a highlighter that’s more versatile than this one from Pixi. Depending on the look you’re going for, you can sweep your brush across any section of the pan to achieve it – the left one-third for just a hint of highlight, the centre third also doubles as a glowy blusher, and the right one-third for the bronzy, sunkissed look. The paraben-free formula also has ceramides to help maintain a healthy skin barrier. This boosts skin hydration and enhances the natural, radiant look.

6. Kevyn Aucoin Glass Glow Face Liquid Illuminator in Spectrum Bronze, approx US$34 (S$46.50), from Net-a-Porter

This doubles as a highlighter and bronzer, and is suitable for deeper skin tones. We recommend mixing a drop of this into your body lotion or moisturiser before applying it all over your body to get that natural-looking tan. The formula has light-catching micro-shimmer particles and a blend of seed oils to help nourish skin too.

7. Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter, $69, from Sephora

This lightweight gel highlighter gives a natural radiant look. Apply it to skin directly for a more intense glow, or mix it into your foundation or primer to brighten up your complexion. Coconut extracts and provitamin B5 help nourish skin while providing radiance.

8. Nars Illuminator in Orgasm, $50, from Sephora

This liquid highlighter can be worn alone for a more intense glow or layered under makeup for a more subtle radiance. We are fans of the Orgasm shade, which flatters a wide range of skin tones, from light to olive to deep.
