There’s no denying that pastel hair colours are a hot favourite among the coolest girls, from top models to social media influencers. But if you’ve always been daunted by it, here’s the good news: L’Oréal Professionnel introduces its Pastel Babylights Colour Service by Majirel, which comprises of soft translucent browns with four cool pastel accents of rose, lavender, mint and mineral. And after giving this a go at Salon Vim (prices start from $160), here are the top five things to know before getting on the pastel hair bandwagon.

  1. 1) Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2016 are pastels
This year, the world’s colour authority has named Rose Quartz and Serenity (see above) as 2016’s colours of the year. And these hues can be found under L’Oréal Professionnel’s Pastel Babylights as rose and mineral respectively. With the affirmation from Pantone, there really is no better time to go pastel.

2) Pastels are surprisingly wearable.
You don’t have to worry about looking like a My Little Pony extra with the new Pastel Babylights. Without having to pre-lighten your hair, this new range of colours contain natural candy undertones to soften natural black hair and neutralise sallowness without making you look washed out.

3) The Babylights technique can make you look younger.
Remember how children’s hair look when they’re out playing in the sun? That same flickering effect can be achieved by choosing tiny sections of the hair for micro-highlights. This method helps the tiny highlighted sections to blend into hair seamlessly for a dimensional effect that also casts light on your face for a brighter, more youthful effect.

4)  Babylights require minimum maintenance.
Apart from the usual practice of using a colour-safe shampoo to help protect hair colour from fading, you don’t have to visit the salon for frequent root touch-up services due to the super natural and gradual effects of the babylights application method.

5) Easy-peasy booking procedure.
L’Oréal Professionnel has teamed up with Vaniday for this launch. Simply visit the Vaniday homepage and you can browse through the 12 Pastel Babylights looks that local L’Oréal Professionnel stylists have created before booking your appointments.
