Makeup is back!

Things are looking up for fall 2021. As we adjust to life beyond the face mask, those in the know understand how to balance the minimalist makeup we've become accustomed to to and the slow reemergence of glam as life beings to open back up. "I think pops of color will trend, from soft pastels to bold brights. You can easily pair a pop of color with a minimal look or go ultra-glam," says Claudia Soare, President of Anastasia Beverly Hills. "And wearing color in different ways, like blush through the center of the face. I also think classics like smoky eyes, liner, and bold lips always have a moment in fall."

When in doubt, look to the classics: lipstick, liquid eyeliner, lashes. But with a 2021 twist. Ahead, the fall 2021 makeup trends we're most excited about.

The full cat-eye is a classic, but celebs like Sydney Sweeney have also been wearing a smaller flick—hence the “kitten eye”—as of late.

The Return of Lipstick

Lipstick, gloss, balms, tints, colors—it's all going to pop. "I think everyone will want to play up their lips with bolder color once we start going out again, since it’s been more of a natural look," notes Soare.

The Return of Lipstick

Megan Fox’s deep red lip by makeup artist Patrick Ta might just be the perfect fall lip color. (The look was such a sensation, it earned public adoration from Ta’s fellow client, Adriana Lima.)

The Return of Lipstick

Prabal Gurung reminded us all of another classic: the simple joy of a red lip with a pink party dress. (Wing eyeliner and blush included.)

The color payoff of these pencils are so good, you can probably skip eyeshadow entirely.

Glowy, Dewy Skin

As the seasons turn cooler, complexions tend to transition more matte. But this year, expect lit-from-within skin like Halle Bailey's to be more common—with or without makeup on top.

Glowy, Dewy Skin

Dewy skin can skew more daytime, but Karlie Kloss’s neutral eyeshadow and lipstick were the perfect complements for “mama’s first night out” after giving birth.

You can also groom eyebrows in an upward motion like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley did here (think laminated brows, but make it DIY).

Don't underestimate your ability to go big with your brows. "I think feathered brows is a trend everyone can wear; it pairs with any look," says Soare—and who would know better than the Anastasia Beverly Hills president?
