Sometimes a top make-up artist shows me a trick that genuinely illustrates why the world's most-photographed celebrities demand their services for all big events.

Such was the case at the launch of Chanel's new Burlington Arcade beauty store, where Kay Montano pulled out a Chanel Long-Lasting Concealer in Shade 31, popped a single dot on the inner corners of my eyes and blended it with a finger towards the bridge of my nose. Promptly, I looked as if I'd had 10 hours of sleep.

As to how and why this tip is so instantly miraculous, Montano explained: "It's all about a concealer that is talc-free and has a peachy undertone. While tones that match the skin – or are slightly paler – do effectively conceal, they won't kill those grey and blue tones that are naturally present around the eyes in the way that a warm, peachy shade will."
