For starters, the Breathe app has been renamed Mindfulness, and comes with expanded functions and features. These include the Reflect feature which encourages you to be in a positive frame of mind for as a little as a minute. The Breathe feature, meanwhile, has been updated with new visuals and tips to aid you in focusing and reinforcing your mind-body connection as you breathe. Come September 27, there will be guided audio meditations for subscribers of Fitness+.

As it is, Singaporeans are one of the most sleep-deprived creatures on Earth. If you love the current Sleep feature in the watch’s Health app, the updates by WatchOS 8 will provide you with more insights to monitor your sleeping patterns and plan for a restful slumber. You can now monitor your sleeping respiratory rate, which calculates your breaths per minute as you catch those Zs.

Declutter your life and reduce unnecessary distractions by concentrating on the moment with the Focus app. This new feature allows you to filter out notifications from people and other apps based on what you are currently doing by allowing only the ones you want. The best part: the Focus feature syncs with your other Apple gadgets – so you can really plug out when you need to.

If you’ve picked up cycling, Pilates or even tai ji recently, good news: the WatchOS 8 can monitor these activities.

The Apple Watch can detect if you’re riding a bike and can prompt you to start a cycling workout, while analysing GPS, heart rate, and acceleration, among other things. For users of e-bikes, the watch can measure active calories more accurately, thanks to an updated cycling workout algorithm.

Practitioners of pilates and tai ji, meanwhile, can rely on the Apple Watch’s custom-built heart rate and motion algorithm which provide users with accurate calorie metrics as you work out to build that core strength, posture and balance.
