The last two years may have changed our beauty habits—especially when it comes to makeup. But one thing that hasn’t changed? That added level of confidence from wearing a gorgeous lipstick or next-level eye look. And as we slowly but surely start bringing makeup back into our lives (some days more than others), we’re looking to the runways, celebs, and some of our favourite makeup pros on Instagram for inspiration. Keep reading for the looks we’ll be wearing this winter, from the new bold lip to the new way we’ll be wearing crystals (hint: everywhere)
1. Sugar Plum Lips
If you’re looking for a fresh take on the holiday lip, a pretty purple like Thandiwe Newton’s feels unexpected but still seasonal.
You can also go a little darker—and add coordinating eye makeup—à la makeup pro Katie Jane Hughes.
2. Grungy Eyeliner
Thick rings of liner will always make a statement, whether worn for a girls’ night out or for the most elegant of affairs (like, say, the Chanel Couture show).

3. Metallic Smoky Eye
Let’s be honest: The smoky eye transcends trends. But the most current take involves extra color, extra shimmer, and just being all-around extra.
We can always count on Pat McGrath for all things over-the-top, and this dimensional, extra-sparkly smoky eye delivers.
4. Disco Makeup
Labels like Coperni put crystals on models’ eyes on the Fall/Winter 2021 runways, but Burberry took things a step further with stars and gemstones scattered all across the face.
If and when Gatsby-esque parties resume, you can catch us wearing a sprinkling of crystals around the eyes à la Iris Apatow.
The trend is taking over brows as well, as evidenced by Kacey Musgraves, who shows off disco brows in Star-Crossed: The Film.

5. Bold Under-Eye Liner
Who says you should take attention away from your under-eyes? This season, the Dior Haute Couture runway flipped everything we knew about eyeliner upside-down (literally) by putting the focus on the bottom lashline.
To ease into the trend, consider this cat-eye look from makeup artist Ash K. Holm.
6. Mint Green
Pastels? For winter? Trust us, a wash of colour on your lids like Yara Shahidi‘s is a nice change of pace from the traditional verdant shades of the holidays.
To take the look a step further, matching your dress like J.Lo is always welcome (but not required).
